Product Readiness Assessment Workshop

A reality check for those developing innovative products

Purpose

The Product Readiness Level (PRL) Assessment is a tool that was developed for entrepreneurs seeking to commercialize new products. Developed based on a decade of experience in R&D product development, established innovation management methodologies, and hands-on start-up build-up, PRL is a versatile tool that can assess physical (e.g., hardware), virtual (e.g., software), and service-oriented products. PRL takes the best from Technology Readiness Level (TRL) and Manufacturing Readiness Level (MRL), developed by NASA and US Department of Defense, and extends them to the realm of entrepreneurship. Its purpose is to provide clear, non-technical information about your product's maturity level to your entire organization.

PRL is designed to identify potential bottlenecks in your product's commercial, technological, and manufacturing aspects, making it particularly useful for innovative products that may not fit traditional product development metrics. Using an agile and market-validation-driven approach, PRL incorporates customer feedback into the product development process.

With the PRL Assessment, you can assess your product's readiness level on both macro and micro scales. Determine its readiness for the market as a whole or identify particular sub-processes that need further technical and commercial development to create the final product.

Process

The PRL Assessment is a one-to-two-day workshop with the customer. Participants actively identify the product's and its processes' maturity, providing the feed for a deeper bottleneck analysis and derivation of future PRLs state. The final part of the workshop connects these outcomes with a Target Operating Model methodology, frequently used for shaping organizations. This part helps operationalize the workshop's outcomes into subsequent daily operations targets.

Value

The written report from the workshop is delivered to the customer within a few days following the workshop.
